Oh, poor Hildifons, and poor Frodo.

This is such a perceptive and poignant tale. I hope somehow Hildifons lived happily and productively to the end of his days.

Yes, to both of them.

It is a bit poignant, but it is also a hobbit story, which I think means it deserves to end in a hopeful manner.

Yes. Bilbo was able to go "there and back again". Hildifons went "there" and never came back again.
