Ah, poor Trotter! What a hideous realization for him!

Yes, poor Trotter!

(and once more, my thanks to you, and to pandemonium!)

"You did indeed protect your friend, and you protected far more than that."

"I see scars of honour, Hildifons, like those borne by many of the Rangers who defend these lands."

Bless that old wizard! :)

Gandalf is very wise and compassionate. He knows what to say, and how best to say it to a hobbit.

Poor guys, Trotter for his injuries and Arathorn for the burden of guilt he will always carry. And leave it to Gandalf to put a different light on things!

Trotter will learn to deal with his injuries. It may take Thorn a bit longer to deal with his guilt.

Shedding light on things is one of Gandalf's main roles in life!

So much destiny for poor Trotter! I feel so sad for Trotter and his poor feet!

It is a lot of destiny, yet no more so than certain relatives of his have to bear somewhat later.

Yes, his poor feet. JRRT never did say *why* Trotter wore wooden shoes, but there were undertones of a possibly sad reason-- I took it from there.

I think Elves would have been very skilled at pain relief of that sort.

And trust a wizard to arrive at exactly the right time!
