I hope you are feeling okay? And thank you for the wonderful reading!
The night was clear, cool, and starry, but smoke-like wisps of mist were creeping up the hill-sides from the streams and deep meadows. Thin-clad birches, swaying in a light wind above their heads, made a black net against the pale sky. That has always been one of my favorite descriptive passages in the entire book. But there are lots of beautiful descriptions in this section, and they all seem to drive home the poignancy of Frodo saying 'I wonder if I shall ever look down into that valley again.'
And I love the dialogue among Frodo, Pippin and Sam. :)
I often wake up congested in the mornings. That day it just took a little longer than usual to wear off! I really sounded awful!
I do love that description too. I often think of it since we moved here, for this time of year, it's a lovely sight, to see the bare tree branches dark against an evening sky!
It is beautiful. It's our last sight of the Shire for a long time, as well as for Frodo, Pippin and Sam--I think that may be why JRRT lingered over it all so lovingly.
