I'm sorry I missed wishing you the best of the day, yesterday, so I hope you will enjoy this. Two drabbles and half a drabble, featuring Samwise Gamgee:
Summary: Regarding something every hobbit needs to learn... (Rated G)
Ooooh...love this! I remember going on a nature walk with someone who knew that sort of thing and realizing how much edible stuff was in the forests around here.
I was inspired by a book I recently found at the library: The Forager's Harvest: A Guide to Identifying, Harvesting, and Preparing Edible Wild Plants by Samuel Thayer.
Did you know that the ubiquitous Queen Anne's Lace is actually wild carrot?
Ah, that's marvelous! I love it that you've got the two generations of lesson sandwiching the use of the skill. Thank you so much for adding to my pile of prezzies!
I honestly think foraging was probably a skill most young hobbits were taught quite early in life; I've always imagined that on the Quest the hobbits did just as much as the Big Folk to keep the Company well-fed! (No greens in the winter, but nuts and roots and a well thrown stone to bring down a squirrel or a bird for the pot...)
