This was lovely--what we would think of as The Best of All Possible Worlds. We so often think of such things, but seldom explore them past the rosy glow of 'what if...?'
Yes, Gandalf is finally getting to have a nice little R&R among his friends for a few decades--a reward for his long toil!
Well, you see, I'd been reading several very good, but horribly angsty, Frodo h/c stories. Poor fellow, he was suffering so much worse than in canon. And so one night I just woke up with this whole scenario of how the Three could have been freed, and wrote the first "Eucatastrophe" story. I never thought about writing another, but this is, I think, the sixth one. They aren't really in order at all. I do have a lot of fun with them, though.
