Yay for cleaner air!

I'm excited. There has been a lot of activity lately concerning trying to get a smoking ban passed in PA. I think it has a serious shot this time, considering the Surgeon General recently released that huge report AND now the PA Restaurant Association has finally reversed its position and is for banning smoking in restaurants ( Read more... )

Well, a large force behind the banning of smoking in bars and restaurants is the health of the people who work there. These people are subjected to the crap for a large chunk of the their day (yes I realize there are positions in restaurants where they are not right in the smoke). And they actually have a pretty sizeable increase in risk for developing health problems because of that exposure: 25 to 30 percent increase for developing heart disease and 20 to 30 percent increase for developing lung cancer, and it's not like those two things cover all across the board of risks ( ... )

Should be banned at both.

Bar owners bitch that they will lose a lot of business, but there is nothing to back that claim up. A ban across the board means everyone is still on equal footing ... people won't stop going to bars. And hell, people like myself would be more inclined to go to a bar since we wouldn't have to worry about hacking up our lungs.

And as for parks ... too many people around, especially children. There is no reason to smoke there. Besides, the jerks leave their cigarette butts all over the place.
