Costuming it up on my favorite non-holiday

So I was at Party City the other night looking for elbow-length satin, black gloves to complete my Halloween costume of Holly Golightly, as played by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I would do Stevie Nicks with more success for the Mad Hatter Tea Party I co-hosted with my friend last year. In fact, I did it very well sans blond wig. But well enough for both my mom and dad to recognize that's who I was dressed as!

I love channeling personas, and I choose each of my costumes thoughtfully....A costume allows me to express something I already am, but for whatever reason, afraid to be..

You think it's possible for people to channel personas without knowing that's what they're actually doing? There's a sociological/psychological phenomenon, not quite mirroring, where you begin to emulate the mannerisms of someone if you spend a lot of time with them. I've experienced this myself--I've spent a lot of time with particular classmates and then have started to talk like them.

It's happened with celebrities too--just by watching so many of their films in a short period of time. Mia Kirshner is one that I've consciously gone to in times of upheaval, I guess. You can see her work here:
