Hugh milieu...

Okay, so I have finally, at long last, seen the movie Australia. I don't have anything constructive to offer in the way of criticism, because I watched it purely for entertainment. What was it about, again? Oh, Hugh Jackman ( Read more... )

Yes, but be sure to lay aside 162 minutes of your time--the sucker's loooooong! I wasn't bored with it, but I was amazed at the time when it was over.

*giggles* Would that "sexy beast" moment be the scene where he dumped the bucket of water over himself? I think I damn near melted then.

Yeah, "Australia" is a rather silly movie, but very nice on the eyes.

Good heavens, yes--thought I was gonna rocket into orbit. You know what that does to a woman my age? Well, of course you do. That's where Erika's eyes got real big and she whispered, "daaaayum."

We watched Oklahoma! last night, with a very young and charming Hugh Jackman, and it was marvelous. All that hotness, and he sings, too...and not a little, either. Great, big, sell-it-to-the-cheap-seats Broadway voice! The man's a complete package of perfection. That was THE most intense portrayal of Curly I've ever seen. Gordon McRae's got nothin'. NOTHIN'!

Guy Pearce said Australians shouldn't see it. He didn't think it was about Australia at all LOL Too funny.

I see your sexy Hugh and match it :o)

That's what I'm talkin' about--killer smile. It's gotta be illegal in some parts of the world.

Actually, I came away from it feeling much more aware of how Australia's history sort of mirrors our own, and understanding that the postcard beauty of the place only serves as a backdrop to the same human struggle that takes place everywhere in the "new world." No, I recongnized that it's not necessarily the story of "Australia," but it IS a story that, to my untutored senses, seems very Australian.

It was equal parts brilliant and silly, which is pretty much how I like things, so s'all good.

Yes, I think that's what Guy meant, too. That it was too "Hollywood" and a bit too similar to American WWII movies to be quintessentially Australian. That it lacked anything that makes us unique.
