I've been partly shocked, partly not by the VW emissions scandal. As many commentators have observed, we've known for ages that real-world emissions are way worse than official tests. But for a company like VW to be caught with such a direct and obvious fiddle is a bit shocking.

I know it's dreadfully selfish, but my main reaction to this is "thank goodness I've got the newer Euro6 standard engine in my car"...

What isn't yet examined is this: the number of planning decisions requiring traffic and air quality projections which relied on now-wholly-discredited AQ models based on these "improved car technology" assumptions. I think many councils will want this under the carpet ASAP.
