Good City eats?

Where's good to eat for veggies near the Barbican? I used to love Carnevale but it was really disappointing last time I went.

The Well (Gastro) is pretty good (I think that's near, on St John Street)... not specifically veggie though. I'm not sure there anywhere is in that area any more.

it depends on what you're looking for reallyL the area around there has gone very "sandwich-y" of late... on the same street as carnevale (whitecross street), there's one very nice pizza place, one average pizza place, one sushi place (very good, has a nice veggie sushi set), one thai place (also yum) and a chinese (cheap and cheerful). carnevale is still going strong and there are a few pubs that do the typical pub fare, but there's not a lot else.

i don't know that much about the other side of barbican, but there are a few places around the station (one italian and a tapas place for starters) that might be alright... and further down towards smithfields on charterhouse street there are a few places that serve decent veg options.

I thought you were meaning York then -- I had a top recommendation too!

Is there anywhere better for veggies in York than Vanilla Black? ;)

(Talking of York are you in town for the nuptials?)

pah, possibly for provincial veggies... i was really unimpressed with a vanilla black lunch not so long ago: even when i'd swapped dishes with bill and tried to eat his instead, it was still pretty vile!!

hhhm, us city folk obviously have higher tastes.... ;-)

There was an implicit "in York" in there.

BTW as I sometimes do, I bumped into vin_petrol on the train to work the other day and he was wondering if you'd ever met as he's heard of you by reputation... I am not sure if you quite overlapped (he was at York '87-'90).

Carne...

Oh.

Oh :(

Mind you, I always though Carnevale was a bloody silly name for a vegetarian restaurant.
