Sorry to hear about the fire, that majorly sucks. We had an apartment fire in 96 that started in our back bedroom ( bad wiring ) and it took everything we owned and our two beloved cats. Most horrific, it still makes me lurch in my stomach to think about. I'm gload to hear that everyone was alright and the majority of your stuff survived though.
From one friend to another. Don't waste your money on a gym... or any other fat loss gizmo. I'm a friend, and a brutally honest one: You won't stick with it.
Find yourself a partner that can work with your schedule and walk, jog, do aerobics...etc. You WON'T do this solo...I know you.
Gym is only part one. Diet is the other. Lastly is sleep.
Mind/motivation. Work on that first (partner & mindset), then work on WHAT you two (three four whatever) will do. Weight watchers. Right near your place. May sound corny, but they offer guidance, meal plans, exercise tips, group meetings...etc.

Good luck with the Gym! I'd advise against the one in the City Centre, that was five kinds of pain when I left it. :-(
