Merlin Art Project

Sep 22, 2012 20:00

Hey there, lovelies!

For the last three years, we collaborated in the Merlin zodiac project, tarot card project, the style of famous artists & animated films project and the celtic animal project.

Will anyone be interested in participating in a Merlin Art Project this year? :D

Theme suggestions and more! )

Actually I already have a ton of ideas for a creature series!! Mega-excited, thanks for the heads-up. ♥

I'd love a creature series too! I wonder how we'll be able to assign each character to a creature - some are pretty straightforward, such as Elena as a changeling. :D

Maybe allow character-claiming, then once characters have been claimed, have a list up of good ideas and allow folks to suggest and negotiate their own so there's no overlap between projects? For example, if I got Morgana, I could decide I wanted her to be a naga and say, 'claiming naga!' But if somebody else had a better case for Knight Valiant being a naga I might go with selkie instead. That sort of thing?

That's definitely a solution. I'm just worried that it might drag on or pose a problem for folks who can't find a compromise.

Oh, to avoid that problem, why not have people claiming both character and a maximum of three possible choices of creature for each character in order of preference?

e.g.
First Choice: Morgana - Naga, Elf, Medusa,
Second Choice: Merlin - Fairy, Vampire, Merman

And we'll try our best to give everyone their top choices of character and creature?

With the creature option, so long as each person was doing a creature/character combination, would everyone necessarily have to have completely different choices? Zombie Arthur is going to be very different from Genie Arthur, and Vampire Arthur is different from Vampire Merlin.

(Otherwise someone always gets stuck doing Ygraine or Catrina. *LOL*) (which isn't to say that people haven't done absolutely brilliantly with Ygraine or Catrina in the past, but I imagine they wouldn't necessarily be people's first choice.)

Having said that, I'm only putting the suggestion out there, if you want to go with completely different characters for each person then I'm still in. :D

Hmm, I think if we're going with the creature series, it'll be more important to showcase a variety of different creatures than to have different characters.

Based on your suggestions, I think we can follow the same process [highlighted below] and see where that leads us. If it is possible to assign everyone with a different creature-character combo, then great! If not, then we'll just assign everyone with a different creature - and allow multiple character occurrences e.g. zombie!Merlin, vampire!Merlin, ogre!Arthur, naga!Arthur.

[What we were planning to do was to have people claim both character and a maximum of three possible choices of creature for each character in order of preference. We'll try our best to assign everyone their top choices of character and creature.

e.g.
First Choice: Morgana - Naga, Elf, Medusa,
Second Choice: Merlin - Fairy, Vampire, Merman]

What do you think? Lol, is that confusing at all?

In that situation, if the first artist gets allocated Morgana Naga.

And the second artist's choices are
Morgana - fairy, goblin, vampire
Arthur -medusa, merman, elf

Then do they get their first choice of Morgana fairy, (because it's different that Morgana Naga), or do they get allocated their second character choice (Arthur Medusa)

(In which case, by the time you get to the sixth artist who's chosen Morgana, Arthur, Merlin...are they then getting their first choice of Morgana Elf because all the characters have been taken now....... which means they're getting their first choice of character, whereas the second artist had to have their second choice of character.) ?

Sorry, that sounds terribly confusing, but I know what I mean. *LOL*
(if you'd prefer to answer with a quick explanation of the political situation in the middle east, then that might actually be easier. *LOL*)

It's not a fixed first come first served thing. It depends on the whole set of character-creature combinations. It'll be exactly like the assignment process in the previous years where I find a way that hopefully gets everyone their first character, first creature if it's possible.

If the first artist get Morgana - Naga (because it's the best choice for that artist and the whole group of artists) the second artist would get Arthur - Medusa (if we're following the first assignment process).

However, if it turns out that the first assignment process wouldn't give everyone a different 1character-1creature set no matter how many different combinations I try, then I'd go with the second assignment process where it's possible for the same character to get paired with a different creature - the second artist will get Morgana fairy.

Sorry, I might be confused by your question.

I saw selkie in that list of creatures, and I immediately thought of the short story I just read about a young lady being seduced by a male selkie.

I definitely like the creature idea, and the 7 Sins/Virtues one sounds like a good compare/contrast project. One character displaying the sin, and then, displaying the virtue next to it.

Oooh, yeah I recently read a selkie fanfic too. But it's not a Merlin fic. :)

At the rate the poll is going, we'll probably be doing creatures! :D I CAN'T WAIT - oh the possibilities!
