By strange coincidence, I was just thinking today about Shulamith Firestone's book, which I read when it came out. I was pushing 15. Everything I know about marxist dialectics probably came out of that book!

As I recall it also made the point that children are chattel possessions (still) in much the same way that women have been. Or maybe it was something else I read at the time. In any case I decided then to try to remain a class ally of children.

She certainly writes about the invention of childhood, and then adolescence, as a means of tying down the social contract and making women "productive". It's not pretty.
