The second part of Jo's interview

She talks further about Draco here, and I got the short summary on masterofmystery's LJ:

Draco Malfoy: Jo loathed Pansy Parkinson (she's every girl Jo ever hated at school; she's the anti-Hermione); and Draco (whom she doesn't think is as bad as Pansy), married Astoria Greengrass (Daphne's little sister), who was two years ( Read more... )

it irritates me so much. Especially when people say that Pansy isn't worthy of Draco, because Draco got redemption in the 7th book.

I mean I love Draco for all effective purposes, but his interests were to save his own hide not to better wizarding kind... but somehow it's okay, because Draco turned out being a good guy? give me a break.

And it's so true, Pansy was just a minor character. She never got to say much, we never knew her. A true Hermione would want to know what caused a girl like Pansy to act the way she does... i'm sure Pansy is not a bitch purely to be a bitch, there's something behind her. Something that wasn't exposed because Jo never felt the need to do so. It seems as if Jo wants to continue hating her instead of creating some sort of resolution. urg i'm just so frustrated.

I hate complaining, but I felt that I needed to say that!

No no, dearie, complain all you want! This woman is driving me INSANE.

Ugh, I refuse to believe that JKR 'had it all planned out'. I know I don't have proof whether or not that's true, but if you look at it, it all fits. Pansy's only appearance in the seventh book didn't exactly put a smile on my face. JKR absolutely loathes her, as we've been hinted throughout the book series. Draco's wife's name was not mentioned; neither was her appearance. And she did not clue us in about who he married until now, and it had to be the random outoftheblue younger Greengrass sister.

JKR's a pretty bloodthirsty woman. First she kills people, now she kills ships. Hahaha, but we all know that dransy will live on :D

I agree. She did not have this all planned out.

Even RON knows Draco shows off for Pansy, for Merlin's sake! She WROTE that! lololol

I'm happy to have you all to laugh at this latest daftness with.

MAJOR FAIL JKR. >8/ Seriously, ever since that essay she wrote on Pansy and Hermione? I just can't respect her as much as I did.

Pansy wasn't the one who altered her appearance in second year so that her BUCK TEETH weren't so 'buck-y'. Gah.

That essay was disgusting. "Let my girls be Hermiones, not Pansy Parkinsons!" I agree with hisgirldee, JKR just charactrized Pansy so she could seem like a coldhard bitch straight out, rather than giving her a reason to be. She didn't give her a reason because she's so biased D:

I don't think JKR's canon characterisation of Pansy is as a cold hearted bitch. She's said some BS in her interviews, and you know how I feel about that: ( link) The canon characterisation is that Pansy is a loyal Slytherin who cares about and likes to have fun with her boyfriend.

FAIL.

Dear JKR,

Please don't take out unnecessary hate on your beloved book characters - namely Pansy Parkinson - just because of your stupid unfounded prejudices against school mates. Your not perfect yourself - and neither is Hermione Granger - so please get the fuck over it.

I mean, seriously, ditching her for Greengrass? A side character so fucking tiny half the fandom has no idea who she is? A side character who we pretty much never see with Draco throughout any book? Good job. Oh yes, you're really being realistic there.

No love,
Me.

Daphne Greengrass was probably mentioned in the book series like, twice. And I'm sure she never had a spoken line. Now JKR decided to make Astoria out of nowhere so JKR wouldn't hav eto place Draco with Pansy and yet claims that this was all planned out. BULLSHIT.

Oh, but your letter is fantastic. Truly got to the point there, you did :B

JKR thinks she's a feminist, but she's extra harsh on the female characters in the series. The only one she likes is Hermione -- and to a lesser degree Ginny.

JKR's logic: Pansy backed up her boyfriend, so that makes her EVIL!

SIW's logic: Pansy's opinion.

LOL, JKR thought this and the epilogue would end all fanon ships, but she was WRONGGGGG. Dreadfully wrong.

It was all just a bad dream, a nightmare! Pansy would never allow Draco to marry someone else when he's in love with her -- she's a Slytherin after all.

D/P has not been shot down, because it was IN the books, and Astoria wasn't. So as far as I'm concerned, she doesn't exist, nor the marriage. Its just JKR's opinion.

Daaarling, I like the way you think.

That's exactly correct.

Draco/Pansy are canon.

Astoria is just a figment of JKR's imagination helped along by a few too many glasses of wine.
