Ginny nodded and smiled. ‘Yes, and?’
‘Aren’t you surprised?’ Hermione asked, utterly taken aback by her friend’s calm demeanour.
‘Well, no, not really,’ Ginny said slowly. ‘I mean, why not? It is a good fit.’
‘Ginny! I just told you I might have feelings for Draco Malfoy and you’re telling me that it’s good! I think I’ve lost my mind, but I can see I’m not alone…’
Ginny laughed. ‘I think it’s been coming for some time, I don’t know why you’re getting upset.’
‘It isn’t normal! I should hate him!’ Hermione exclaimed.
Ginny sipped her tea and nodded. ‘Yes, but his son married your daughter. And you’ve both been spending a lot of time together. I think it was inevitable. You make each other crazy, but you’re, mentally, equally matched.’
Hermione’s jaw dropped. ‘Have you known this would happen? How could you know?’
Ginny just smiled. Hermione pointed an accusing finger at her oldest friend. ‘How did you know?’
‘Some things are more obvious than others. If things didn’t work out with Ron, I had a feeling that should Draco appear, you’d find your proper companion.’
‘My what?’ Hermione eked out. ‘I’ll owl Harry, he needs to know about the fact that you’ve lost your mind.’
She laughed. ‘He already knows, and hates it. He told Draco in no uncertain terms that if he hurts you, even a fraction as much as my brother hurt you, he’d be answering to the head of the Auror department.’
Hermione sat back dejectedly. ‘I’m usually the first to know…why am I the last now?’
Ginny laughed. ‘Not quite the last, Rose and Scorpius don’t know, and neither does Ron. Just imagine how much it’ll kill him to know you’re dating Draco Malfoy?’
Hermione laughed and smiled, setting the quill to paper and accepting the invitation for dinner with Draco.
