Ah, this is just beautiful! It leaves me with the most satisfied, heart-felt sigh of delight. I love the slow unfolding, their steps toward each other, and the revelation of the theme:

"“Why do you want to run?” she asks. “Are you afraid of being seen?”
He suspects she doesn’t understand the full meaning of her question. “Not with you,” he replies, as close as he can get to saying he is scared to be seen by her."

Because in the end, it is all about the "seeing." Draco seeing what Hermione needs, while all the others (even though they love her) don't even notice her needs and continue to take, take, take. The way that "seeing" is a revelation of a deeper caring. And how she returns it, in her own unique way, by seeing him as her hero-- the hero of small things that are really big things to an individual in need. This is a wonderful story, floo. It really resonated with me! Kudos to you for such a lovely creation!!

Oh, thank you so much for your kind words! So thrilled you enjoyed it. I really had a great time writing it. And I'm glad that the 'seeing' theme resonated. I know that feeling, of wanting someone to really KNOW you, all the way. :)

this is such a brilliant and delightful character study! i love that there's an immediate connection and inexplicable understanding they have of one another. and how that grows and develops and matures and blossoms as time passes.

i love the insights into their own characters.

i love that he found courage to leave and that that courage helped him help her. i love that his keen observations have been used for good, instead of for bullying like he used to in school.

i love how quickly she learns to trust him and how she lets him help her, be her support, be her hero.

and, of course, i love all the thick, crunchy, crackling UST that finally resolves with fireworks! i love that he will henceforth define his life as before and after he kissed her. *happy sigh* *melts*

a great AU as well that's going on in the background. i love that, as they fight for a new order and way of life, that it's being paralleled with the relationship between these two.

an exquisitely crafted story!

Thank you for this lovely review and your constant support of this story! Thank you also for your insights into what you enjoyed about the story. I was super nervous to write a war fic, but your kind encouragements helped me through.

It makes sense that an observant outsider would see her, or parts of her, in a way her tried and true companions would miss. I liked how their bond/understanding/whatever developed in near-complete silence, without words or even any acknowlegement on either side. The pacing of this was lovely too. Very very nice. Your fics are always brilliant and this is no exception!

Thank you so much! I'm glad that their bond came across, despite so few words devoted to it. I really appreciate your review!

Floo, this was absolutely fantastic. I've been in Hermione's shoes myself, and what I wouldn't give to have had a Draco to actually SEE me.

This line resonated with me:
"Being that person, the ENOUGH person, is the most exhausting thing she’s ever tried."

I'm so, so glad there were fireworks. :)

Thank you so very much! I used someone in my life as inspiration for Hermione a little bit here. Especially with that ENOUGH concept. I'm glad that it worked for you.

This was such a wonderful twist on the "stuck in Grimmauld Place during the war" type story. You didn't dwell overlong on the why's and just went for it. Loved the read. Thank you.
