Aug 19, 2010 15:09

Here are the rules, timeline, and sign-up information for those who wish to participate in the Special Challenge!

Timeline:

Sign-ups: August 19th-September 1st
Fics due: September 14th September 21st
Seconding: September 15-30th
Voting: October 1st September 22nd - October 7th
Winners Announced: October 9th

What is the Special Challenge? In Round 4 of the Dramione Awards, floorcoaster introduced the concept of incorporating a writing contest into the awards. Since we are celebrating fics of 1000 words or less in this round of awards, we thought, why not also have you writers create some lovely new drabbles, ficlets, and flash fiction for the community? :) For those interested in participating, please read the rules carefully prior to signing up. There is no limit to the number of participants, so we'd love to see a bunch of you come along for the ride!

Rules:

- Sign-ups for participation in the Special Challenge will be open until September 1st. To sign up, simply leave a comment to this post (will be screened; anonymous comments NOT accepted).

- Stories created for the Special Challenge must be between 100 and 1000 words in length. Fics of 1001 words or more are NOT eligible for submission.

- There will be three categories for the Special Challenge: Drabbles (100 words exactly), Flash Fiction (101-500 words), and Ficlets (501-1000 words). You may submit, at most, ONE STORY PER CATEGORY (for a maximum of three submissions). In other words, you can choose to submit just one story from any of the three categories, two from two different categories, or one from each of the three categories. Make sense?

- Stories must feature Draco/Hermione as the main pairing.

- The story must be a NEW work that was created specifically for this challenge. It cannot be a story you previously posted elsewhere.

- Since this community is open to members of all ages, please refrain from writing stories that contain explicit sex or violence.

- All submissions will be due at Midnight Eastern Standard Time on September 14th September 21st. If you will be unable to complete your fic by the time it is due, please leave a comment to this post informing the mods, or email us at dramioneawards@gmail.com so we will know not to expect a submission from you. Due to the time constraints of seconding and voting for the stories, there will be NO EXTENSIONS. If you do not submit your story by Midnight EST on September 14th September 21st, it will not be up for voting in this round of awards.

- Please do NOT post your Special Challenge fic(s) in any other location until after winners have been announced on October 9th.

- Once completed, submit your stories, fully coded and as an attachment, to dramioneawards@gmail.com. Be sure to include the following header information with your submission:

Voting Procedure: The fics created for the Special Challenge will be posted to the community, and will go through the Seconding and Voting phase in separate categories alongside the other nominees, and according to the same rules. After the Voting Phase, banners will be awarded to the Special Challenge winners. ETA: There will be NO seconding phase.

Prompt: Stories must be inspired by one of the following quotes, which follow our "celebrate the little things" theme for this round of the awards. You do not have to include the quote in the body of your work; these are simply to be used as a springboard for coming up with your story(ies). How you choose to incorporate the idea is up to you.

"For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love."
-- Carl Sagan

"I long to accomplish a great and noble task, but it is my chief duty to accomplish small tasks as if they were great and noble."
-- Helen Keller

"Miracles are a retelling in small letters of the very same story which is written across the whole world in letters too large for some of us to see."
-- C. S. Lewis

"Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things."
-- Antonio Smith

"We can do no great things; only small things with great love.”
-- Mother Theresa

"There are very few human beings who receive the truth, complete and staggering, by instant illumination. Most of them acquire it fragment by fragment, on a small scale, by successive developments, cellularly, like a laborious mosaic."
-- Anais Nin

"Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end."
-- Scott Adams

"What a profound significance small things assume when the woman we love conceals them from us."
-- Marcel Proust

If you have any questions or concerns about the challenge, feel free to leave a comment to this post, or email the mods at dramioneawards@gmail.com.
