A concern has been brought to the attention of the mods about stories that were nominated in previous rounds. The concern is that stories nominated in one round are then allowed to be nominated in the next.
We do have a policy that winning stories cannot be nominated in the same category in the next round, but should that policy extend to all fics that participated in the previous rounds?
The idea is that if a story was nominated and didn’t win, it had its chance. If it’s nominated again, it likely won’t win, or it will win simply because that story has been in people’s sight more than the others.
For Round 5, we want to do a “Best of 2008.” However, there are some stories that were completed in 2008 that were nominated in Round 3 of the awards.
With that in mind, I come with another poll.
BUT FIRST the results from the last poll. As was pointed out by
marmaladefever, if we use any of the quantity cut-offs (i.e., 25% in 2007, 75% in 2008), we will run into the problem of some fics never being eligible. And the majority of people voted for fics completed in 2008 ONLY, so that is what we will do.
In Round 5, ALL STORIES must have been completed in 2008. The ONLY exception is the “Best WIP”, and these stories MUST have been started in 2008. The result of this date cut-off is that none of the fics nominated in Round 5, except those in Best WIP, will be eligible for the “Best of 2009” awards.
As for the seconding. 82% of respondents LIKED the new system of seconding, however I failed to ask if people liked it BETTER than the previous rounds. I have to think that in general, you preferred the old method of seconding because the number of people who seconded was much lower than in previous rounds.
Round 1
NOMINATORS: 29
SECONDERS: 42
VOTERS: 85
Round 3
NOMINATORS: 50
SECONDERS: 60
VOTERS: 59
Round 4

Okay, enough talking! Time for the poll.
