I'm a little concerned about the idea of having a wart round. Would that require that we write in characters with warts? Or will the nominees be warts? :D
One is to do with the list of voters in a tiebreaker being open to public view. I think the identities of the voters and their choices should absolutely remain anonymous. People should feel free to make their selections with the knowledge that their choices are confidential. By the same token, it can be upsetting to writers to actually see who voted for them and who did not.
Second, I think that the category of "Best Fluff/Most Romantic" doesn't work as a single category, because a fic that is pure fluff is, of course, very likely to be romantic, but you can have a fic that is deeply romantic and yet not the least bit fluffy, but instead, quite angst-ridden or an adventure piece or simply too much of a mixture of a lot of things besides romance to be classified with an additional label. So I say, separate the two.
Yeah. The form for creating a poll isn't all that explanatory or helpful, so I just guessed. Turned out you could click a button that would show the list of people who voted and how. For the second vote using a poll, I made sure that feature was not available.
So, I think I've got that figured out, at least. :)
Well, that was the case with the first round of tiebreakers anyway. I think the list was available to writers whose fics were competing in the tiebreaker, not the general readership. But after that, I believe it was changed so that nobody had access, which is how it should be. Hopefully, the specific breakdown of votes in a tiebreaker will remain closed to everyone's view from now on.
I wish that WIP would only be allowed in the see what happens next section. I really disliked reading a long wip up against a complete fic, just didn't seem fair.
Also I think the post-Hogwarts category should be divided into not-DH compilant, EWE, and canon compilant.
Which story in the "What happens next..." category was completed? They are supposed to be WIPs.
As for the Post-Hogwarts, yeah, I agree... I don't know how that would really work, though. Whoever nominates would have to indicate how the story deals with DH, if at all...
Maybe HBP-compliant, DH-compliant, and EWE. But then, there's DH AND Epi compliant, which are a different kind of fic too...
Yea, but weren't there some other categories that allowed WIPs, besides the What Happens Next? I should go back and check what the heck I'm talking about before writing a comment. :P
Yes, WIPs were allowed in other categories. If we only allowed completed fics, then we'd be disqualifying a lot of really good stories. I do see your point though. Something to think about.
I also wonder if there should be some sort of ficlet category for stories that are over 500 words, but aren't really one-shots (very short one shorts), less than 2000 words or something.
Yeah, definitely in the next round, the length category will be based on number of words. Might be difficult, because I don't know if all fic hosting sites provide that information.
WOuld you be interested in some brainstorming for the dramione art awards? I remember when I posted the question a few months ago, you had a few good comments. No biggie, just thought I'd ask! :)
LOL. Well, I was just thinking of emails ... ;) We could chat, however. Do you have a service already? If not, there's always google mail, which has a chat function.
Just to say, the awards were really well done all-round, but agree with a few of the above points, especially regarding the Post-Hogwarts category. It struck me that that there are real differences here between those stories trying to be canon compliant and those which are effectively AU. (And then there are those which start out compliant but veer into non-compliance shortly after). Sure, there is a post-DH category, but does this mean all fics here have to be canon-compliant, as all post-Hogwarts stories are post-DH, even of canon is being ignored? I thought these categories were confusing.
Also agree that word count is more telling than the number of chapters.
WIPs should be allowed in most categories IMO, because so many of the great fics are incomplete (sadly).
Thanks - glad to hear you thought the awards went well.
The Post-Hogwarts category is leftover from the previous rounds, when there was no DH. The Post-DH category was supposed to be stories compliant with Deathly Hallows; Post-Hogwarts would fit all other stories, post-HBP most likely. And NOT all Post-Hogwarts stories are Post-DH--only if they are DH compliant. However, there were no descriptions of the categories, so I can see how there could be some confusion.
As for WIPs, they were allowed in most categories: Best WIP, Best Epic, and all Genre and Other categories, plus "Best classic WIP." They were not allowed in most of the length categories because, once complete, the fic might end up in a different length category.
Many of the great, incomplete fics also fell into the classics category, because they are essentially abandoned and haven't been updated in a long time.

I think it would mean, theoretically speaking, that the artwork would have to feature warts.
