About the Hufflepuff thing, i think that they may not take points off, because its HUFFLEPUFF and they must have had a good reason for flipping someone off. And if the game is especially intense, they might ignore it completely. Key word might. But you may want to hold off of putting that in anyway if you are indifferent to it. if you especially like having that, keep it in! As for the pregnancy, i would think so. I mean, witches and wizards get sick, and they die. It would be pretty realistic, and the wizarding world can't be perfect. As for the gender determining thing, i think they would have SOMETHING. Hope this helped a little! :)
i am not sure atm how much detail i will go into but in what i have down so far, both Crabbe and Goyle have been consistently attempting to take her down by Bludger, LOL.
i could keep or leave it--i was just intending to show that she's not intimidated, in a kind of "yea, bite me" response to Goyle's sneer of (he thinks) intimidation, heh.
I agree with Bunney's theory about magical pregnancies. It seems clear that there isn't a preponderance of magical people on the planet, although they should certainly have a survival edge. Problem pregnancies could be one factor explaining this.
I also have the impression they are somewhat stuck as a culture, and maybe not developing technologies as fast we are. This could be caused in part by a shrinking population which in turn could exacerbate it. Anyway, I could see them struggling to come up with a solution to generating more successful pregnancies.
Therefore, in my opinion, there is only one solution to their biological and cultural problems: the marriage law.
I think she could get away with it, considering the behaviour of the Slytherin team in the first book. Maybe have Madam Hooch give her a warning. I don't think they would actually call foul, however. Just from a Brit-Pick standpoint, have her "give the V" or "The two fingered salute" instead of the bird. It's always nice when I see this common Brit gesture show up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V_sign_as_an_insult#V_sign_as_an_insult
As for your medical stuff, sure, why not? It's biology, which is delicate enough that there is always room for problems, even with magic. Especially if your medwife witch/wizard is a little ham handed. Or sometimes, babies are just have issues. Maybe mom has preeclampsia or the baby is breech or is allergic to something mom isn't and mom doesn't know... magic doesn't always catch/solve everything. Have fun! :-)
re: the latter--without saying who, difficult pregnancies/birthings run in that person's family...but i was just running it by others to make sure it was a viable idea at all. thanks for your input. :)
