Maybe how editing of text reflects/affects teh work of a particular director of note? Peter Brook, William Ball, Beerbohm Tree, Gielgud,Guthrie? I was gonna suggest "a particular era" but that might be too general ( ... )

My company has Country Wife and 12th Night about to go into rehersal. I can put you in contact with the Director and/or teh Dramaturg if thats parks any ideas.

If you could get a reliable run-down of the edits used, you could potentially look at ways that contemporary world views/history/etc. influence the reading of a text in production? Not sure if that's an angle you'd like, but it popped to mind.
