Title: The difference between lying and acting
Prompt Number/Prompt: 009/Lie
Character/Fandom: Faith Lehane/BtVS
Word Count: 325
Rating: PG (there's a curse word *gasp*)
Warning(s):  I used some of the BTVS books for Faith's history here. So if there's a "WTH" moment from her history, that's where I got it from.
Summary:  Faith's been acting and lying as long as she can remember.

There’s a difference between acting and lying. Acting is telling people what they need to hear so that they can get on with they’re life. Lying is well… lying. Not being upfront about anything so that she can get through her own life.

Faith’s been doing both as long as she can remember.

Yes, mom’s new boyfriend could be her new daddy.

No, he hadn’t touched her and later, yes he did. But it was her fault.

Yes, she felt remorse for beating up the guy trying to pimp out her mom.

Yes, she belonged in a mental institution.

No, there was nothing more to “96” then the fact she turned 14.

No, there was nothing wrong with Kenny (actually that one was sort of true).

Yes, it was her fault that Kenny had to bring back his girlfriend from the dead because he’d rather be with her than with Faith.

No, she wasn’t jealous of Buffy Summers.

Not a lot of people knew the difference but she did and that’s all that mattered. It got her through the day and made her the world’s best actor.

Until one day in an alleyway when everything just fucking blurred together. Then there’s nothing but truth and a prison cell (even though staying in there was another lie).

Later, Faith thinks that she finally has a hang of this lying and acting thing. Acting is still telling people what they need to hear to get through their daily life but lying was simply fooling herself. It was like making a fantasy world in her head where she didn’t have to deal with her shit. She’s all for helping other people do that but it’s not her.

At least not anymore.

That’s why she’s careful with what she does when Robin is holding her telling her everything is going to be ok. That’s she’s changed too much for it not to.

She might start lying again and believe  that it’s true.
