Well Excuse Me For Being A Good Customer!

Jul 10, 2009 08:38

I've wanted an iPhone for awhile. Provided my endeavours at Ottawa Fringe were profitable, my plan was to treat myself to one this summer. The timing seems good, as the release of iPhone 3GS drove the price of the 3G to just below a hundred bucks ( Read more... )

I so hear you on the rantworthiness of the Canadian mobile business. It's definitely a ridiculous situation in all of Canada.

What gets me is that this clueless customer care rep thinks she understands the business reasons why Rogers has decided to force existing customers with contracts into paying more for their iPhones. She doesn't. All that crap about "revenue" she was spouting to you is essentially meaningless nonsense. When I got my iPhone, I signed a new contract, and it would have been just as easy for you to do the same...it's essentially red tape.

I would recommend you investigate Fido. They sell iPhones, but have different data plans and stuff. It may be worth switching, even though they are owned by Rogers.

I had assumed that Fido's plans would have been the same. I'll definitely check them out now, thanks!

I'm pretty sure that if you call their 'customer loyalty' section of their voicemail help centre that they'll hook you up with what you want.

(because that's been my experience with Telus. I'm always convincing them to give me free stuff and to overlook my roaming fees.)

Oooo! Any tips on what I should say? Should I take the be-really-nice-so-you-ll-want-to-help-me approach, or is the I'm-irrate-and-will-take-away-my-business tact better?

The whole industry makes me crazy - I do the ostrich thing and try not to deal with it at all. (My phone is with Fido, but it's not on a plan, which probably costs more, but I just could not bring myself to lock in.)

The thing is I resisted locking into a plan for YEARS, because was I afraid of exactly this sort of fuckery. Murr!

I almost DON'T want an iPhone, just because I don't want Rogers (or Rogers via Fido) to have anymore of my money.

Except I totally want an iPhone.

Yeah, Rogers is evil. I have other friends who are happy with the service they receive from Telus.
