Destructive Criticism

Negative feedback is par for the course with artistic endeavours. You put stuff out there, chances are someone's going to think it sucks. I knew that going into this whole play-putting-on adventure. I've been psyching myself up for months. It's okay if not everyone likes my stuff. People are entitled to their opinions. What's important is ( Read more... )

It *IS* like someone called your baby stupid! You've been pouring yourself into that wholeheartedly for a long time.

I'm sad that I don't think I'll have a chance to see it. Bixkitty said it was fab, and her opinion is worth more than that reviewers :).

Not everyone is going to like everything. And I think the other reviews - mine excluded - are unbiased and positive.

I'm not saying it doesn't hurt, but they always say that one bad review does more hurt than ten positive ones. I guess it's true!

Um, when I said that my review was NOT unbiased and positive, what I meant was that it was unbiased. I totally admit my bias - but I did love the play, my reaction was positive! (As was my review!)

It is true. The positive reviews hardly hurt at all! :)

Thank you for being here. Your opinion means more to me than a hundred Melanie What's-Her-Faces put together.

That person wrote an almost identical review for "Joe: The Perfect Man." (Yes, I googled her) She seems like the kind of person Kevin Smith was thinking about when he wrote (or put into a character's mouth) "The Internet is a communication tool used the world over where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another."

All the people who seem to have critical thinking skills wrote positive reviews, right? :)

Yeah, she doesn't like stuff very much. One thought I did have is that if this person is a veteran Fringer, it makes sense that she wouldn't love my play. Fringe has a reputation for churning out more avant-garde type theatre. My play is decidedly mainstream, which isn't what everyone is hoping for at this kind of festival.

I find the Fringe to be especially hard for that, because it really encourages everyone to share their opinion out loud and where the people involved can hear it. That's tough! And painful! You've been getting lots of positive reviews, too, though, which is wonderful.

Thank you. I knew the reviews were part and parcel of the Fringe deal. My show is very mainstream so I can sort of understand why certain Fringers wouldn't want to see that.

But the implication that I ripped it off...really frosts me!
