A Public Service Announcement For Facebook Group Members:

The commonly accepted phrase refering to thirty minutes is "half an hour". "Half and hour", well, that isn't anything. Think about it. Half what and an hour? I know fractions can be tricky, but come on!

Language is NOT the enemy! End the assault now!

Hee, I know EXACTLY where you saw that, because I just saw it too! *facepalm*

I know I'm the last person to criticize people's writing, but...GAH! How do you get through life without realizing it's half an hour?

Well, I was guilty of writing "intensive purposes" while in University. I did a face palm when someone clued me in that it was "intents and purposes."

Could it have been a typo?

I've seen the nameless culprit make that same error in at least three Facebook groups.

For years I thought the expression was "I could care less."

As a tangent,
I find it particularly when americans say "a quarter OF the hour" instead of "a quarter TO the hour". In my mind, a quarter of the hour would be 15 minutes after an hour, not 15 minutes before it. It's so strange.

Perhaps they mean an hour and a half.

Maybe. But they used the phrase in reference to television shows that are half an hour long. There's either a problem with language or with time.

The worst is "here here!" instead of "hear hear!" I've seen that TOO many times, though on LJ, not facebook.

I wish people read more.
