I've traveled with a dog for some time, but - he didn't seem to like me very much. Have you tried giving your dog hugs?

Feeding him is good, but that's not really attention. Dogs are social creatures; he might want you to play with him, or to give him a scratch behind the ears, or maybe a belly rub. You're so lucky to have an affectionate dog!
