O-okay . . . I know I'm really new to American traditions, and to Western traditions in general, but . . . h-have I missed something? I think I must have, but . . . I don't dare ask at school (not after the thing with Thanksgiving), so I'm asking here, if nobody minds. 9,9;;;;;;
See . . . I've . . . been trying to observe, and kind of hearing a little, about the traditions of Western Christmas. And I've always gotten the impression that one of the central figures of the holiday, Santa Claus, is a really friendly, giving person. And...that's something else that's been confusing me, because just who or what is the holiday about, him or a religious leader's birthday. Not that it makes a big difference to me - I'm Shinto. ^,^;;;; But . . . anyway, Santa Claus. I heard a song on the radio yesterday that, frankly, has me a little freaked worried confused. Here, I found the lyrics...

He watches me sleep?! I don't want anyone watching me sleep - that's just creepy! Well, except for Mou Hitori no Boku, but that's another matter... And what's he going to do when he gets to town?! Sounds like he's out to "get" people, you know? Punish them for being bad? "Better be good or Santa will get you"? And the people singing it sounded so upbeat about it. It was weird!
