The Legend of Korra S1 E7

I’m lazy right now (and also really busy this weekend), so I’m not doing my usual style of reviewing. I’m going to post my notes, which have been fleshed out a bit after watching the full episode. So here goes for disorganized comments!

I like the speech at the beginning with the radio and sepia. Great recount. Also, evil Tarrlok planning. I think he wants to take Lin out of office and put in someone more loyal to him… And since Lin is resigning, Tarrlok is free to do that.

Korra’s face was so hurt when the bros said they would live with Asami in the Sato mansion. I wanted to hug her then because I know what it feels like when your friends decide to go with someone who isn’t your friend instead of you. Even though they had plans with Asami first, it still hurts. Fortunately Asami’s really nice and even invites Korra over.

Let’s all spazz over the adorableness of Pabu. Bolin cajoling Korra into coming to Asami’s with Pabu. Cannonball Pabu. Puffy Pabu. I need GIFs.

Cabbage man statue! *squees* And lol at the executive Cabbage Corp guy yelling “no, not my Cabbage Corp!” It’s a great shout-out to the old ATLA fans. I wonder if Cabbage Corp really is involved with Amon or if they were framed. I think they were framed because how stupid would you have to be to leave stacks of Equalist posters in your factory.

Depressed, sad Tahno with horrible hair. He’s lost his smug attitude, which is good though the price was high. No one deserves having their bending taken away - unless they’re evil and using it for genocide like Ozai. I want Tahno to become their ally.

Butler dude is amazing!

Korra and Asami getting along on the race course was fantastic. T Asami is rather badass in her own way. This sentiment increased at the end of the episode when she electrocuted her father. That was awesome. More on that below.

Lol, airsitting and babybending.

Geez, firebenders kill everyone’s loved ones. Mako and Bolin’s parents, Amon’s family (assuming he was telling the truth which I’m not certain of yet), and Asami’s mom. I suppose it’s because firebenders are aggressive and they have a bad history of being overly superior about bending vs. non-bending. *sigh* Those firebenders give other firebenders a bad name. Why can’t we have other benders kill instead for a change?

Oh Mako… Excusing Korra of doing this out of jealousy…. Not okay. And ending your friendship over a girl? I think that’s ridiculous and stupid. Friends beat lovers. But then it did look a lot like baseless accusation, so I can understand why he’d blame her.

DUN DUN DUN!

I love the metalbending cop poses, as if they’re holding guys but not really. Also, yay for Lin being awesome with sensing underground tunnels and then metalbending the floor!

OMG, robot fighters! They’re badass. Though I’m not a huge mecha-suit fan, I think I’ll enjoy these because they’ll be fighting benders so it’s not robot vs. robot. It’s bender vs. robot and that’s pretty cool.

Lol, I love Mako’s sneeze and Bolin’s earthbending. I wonder if they made that up on the spot or if they used to use the technique while living on the streets…

“That sounds very familiar. Why? Because that’s what you just said.” Ha!

Okay, Masami feels when she tells him to be careful and he’s nice to her. I’m definitely multi-shipping in this show. I still want Makorra to be endgame, but I won’t be upset if Masami and Borra (or single Korra - she doesn’t need a boyfriend) happen instead. I just don’t want the romantic relationships to fracture any friendships.

Yes, Tenzin fighting! And concern for Korra! And air wheel! I want more Tenzin fighting.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! TENZIN!

Hiroshi makes me sad because I really liked his jovial nature but he’s actually mean and bitter (understandably so). His loss has radicalized him and so he’s sympathetic, but on the flip side, blaming all benders for the actions of one firebender is not fair. Still, it’s such a real thing to happen. Loss can easily turn someone on a radical path. I wonder what his wife would’ve thought about the Equalists and Hiroshi’s turn… Anyway, I’m sure he started taking all bender crimes personally after that moment. Despite his high standing in this bender society, he has a vendetta against benders. He stands to lose a lot if the order is disturbed, but then I don’t think he really cares about the social ramifications as much as getting revenge.

I love that Asami chooses to help them instead of join her father. It was the right thing to do. She can see that eliminating benders isn’t the solution. It won’t bring her mother back and it’s not fair to punish benders. Even if their society does need adjustments, a war on benders is not the right path. After all, plenty of good benders exist. I’m really excited to see how this development goes.

Oh Lin. You’re going to be investigating this on your own, finding your fellow cops while ignoring the law. You go!

I’m glad Mako apologized. And that they’re going to live at the Air Temple! And that Asami gets a place there, offered by Korra. And that she’s the bigger person and tells Mako to go comfort Asami despite liking him. I sense fun, awkward, awesome times ahead on Air Temple Island!
