INCOMING!

Feb 12, 2005 00:36

In three weeks, right now, I'll have just finished the whole day-of-turning-30.
In four weeks and 36 hours I'll be starting to run in Rome. By the end of that run I'll have covered 26.2 miles.

I am far more worried about the latter.

The first may move me inexorably closer to death.
The second may actually kill me.

Gosh you're old.

I'm glad that the temperature won't be that high in Rome when you're doing the marathon tho.

You mere whippersnapper you!

Do you plan to cover the whole distance in training at any point? Does seem to be recommended.

My training has fallen behind somewhat but I shall certainly be doing 3 hour runs beforehand...that should take me to around the 20 mile mark. I've no intention of actually running a Marathon in training for running a Marathon. What would be the point??

It's apparently psychologically very valuable to know that you have actually covered the distance before - even if some of it was at a walk. And physiologically it's at >20 miles that the problems tend to set in IIRC.

Hey, what do I know, the very furthest I have ever run in one go was 2 miles. I hate running. I'll walk or cycle all day, though.

Still, it's cool to be of a species that can run things to death. Saw a programme in which an african guy just ran after this antelope until it keeled over of exhaustion. 2-3 days or something. Then he had to carry it home, I suppose.

So you are getting off light!

The longest official race is 3,100 miles across the States.

It was won this year by a teacher from England. He managed 50 miles a day for 2 months.

Now that's proper endurance.

So are you up for a going-clubbing taking-E visit the weekend of your 30th then?????

Not sure about what I'm doing for my Birthday, but you are certainly welcome to come down. Doubt I'll be doing much in the way of E though as it wipes me out training wise for a few days afterwards.

We can arrange a clubbing session somewhere, somewhen after I've Marathoned it.

In which case, yes, I'll bowl the E in and we'll have an A1 tip-top clubbing jam fare. A sandwich of fun on ecsatsy bread, wrapped in a big bag like disco fudge.

It doesn't get any better than that.
