Ji and his damn ideals. It is up to interpretation but I think so ... I don't think I can see him leaving the apartment - he probably over drank or over dosed before he did the deed and just sitting there being consumed by flames with his head filled with ideas of poetic justice and ideals.
On the other hand, you could choose to believe that it's all unintentional and just a tragic accident. We don't know if Ji took the key or what even caused the fire. Maybe the fairy lights ironically caused the fire ~~
It is pretty crazy isn't it? Probably just confused you more haha. :)
