Dragonsinger and the Bridge Sliding Adventure

I live in the South in a coastal city. Ice is a foreign concept here. However, I grew up in the mountains of North Carolina. Ice is much more common there. You see, I knew going across the bridge to get to work would be a bad idea, but apparently, nobody else did ( Read more... )

Yeah, South Carolina has no idea what to do with anything wintery. Thus I didn't drive yesterday, even though the roads looked only wet, and I'm quite good at ice skating with a car. I don't trust most of them to drive on a good day, much less on icy bridges.

Glad you did eventually make it to work and back.

Well, since I came from up north (New York) when I moved to SC, I was specifically told by one co-worker not to travel wintery roads as the other drivers were dangerous. Plus, up north any snowy roads were cleared by 7am on weekdays.

They do the same thing in the NC mountains, but sometimes they don't get all the ice.

The first day we got snowed off, myself and the two other girls who live in my end of the village were texting one another from half seven in the morning, wondering would we have to go in or not. (It's about seven minutes of a drive in normal conditions on back country roads that would not be treated. And we have to go down a steep f***-off hill that has a sharp corner at the end of it. Fun!) After going back and forth I finally said that I wasn't leaving my house until I knew the school was definitely opening and if I was late, I was late. The other two adopted that as their philosophy as well...thankfully, we were closed!

That sounds like an excellent philosophy. I'm going to adopt that as well.
