This was one of the most terrifying stories I've read--because didn't involve monsters and yet had such potentially devastating consequences! I appreciated that you didn't make any of the cops/CPS people out to be mean, just doing their job. Which made it even scarier...
That's the frightening thing about CPS - is that most of them are just trying to do their jobs and protect kids, and that they have so much power. They could have taken the boys away from John permanently, and realistically, they most likely would have been separated for at least a while when the agency saw how co-dependent they were.
I loved how the police, CPS and hospital staff concerns were so rational and based on facts. And I enjoyed seeing the brothers working together to escape.
Yep, more of my complicated feelings about John Winchester's parenting. Because the facts are that John Winchester did not raise his sons in a nurturing environment. I think he did love them, and probably was too damaged himself to see what he was doing to them, but ... And the way they were trained to stick together has become their strongest asset and their biggest weakness.

Oh, how I loved this fic! I'm so glad I happened across it! All the details were so perfect. The affection between Sam and Dean was heartbreaking, as were the good intentions of everyone involved-- and the fact that they were right, in a way, that it wasn't a good way to grow up. Even if they were dead wrong about John, and about the right thing for the boys. It killed me, Dean's reaction to finding out Sam had to have an "internal exam," and that he did, and poor little Sammy, not wanting all those people looking at him naked. :-( And that they sedated him! His vulnerability felt SO REAL, and was terribly wrenching. AND THIS IS SOME OF THE BEST PROTECTIVE!DEAN I have ever read! God, I love that kid
( ... )
Love this story! Love how smart Dean is all the way through, and I love that they made it in the end and other hunters helped them and John was so intensely relieved to get them back!
