Train Thoughts

I’m sitting in the train home to my parents to spend the long weekend there (well, when I post this I won’t be in the train anymore :P) and to hang out. I’m rather looking forward to the break and the being served (and to the cats, yay!). It’s nice not to have to do anything, though I did take some work with me, because I can’t afford to not do ( Read more... )

Woohoo, language nerd! I was going to be one of those, back before I realized that I'm much too lazy for languages. The lexicographer thing sounds pretty interesting. It's one of those jobs that everyone knows must exist but nobody really ever thinks about.

I mostly get the intermediate exams thing now. The only part that's confusing is "college", which apparently means something different in every country. Here, it's usually synonymous with university, though there are "community colleges" that are equal to the first two years of uni. People have said that in the UK, "college" is the last two years of high school, before you go on to uni. It kind of sounds like it's in between the two in Germany. Is that right?

The belly dancers are neat. Steampunk is, of course, completely made of win, and you've now tripled the number of male belly dancers I've ever seen. There need to be more of those.

Yeah, I think it would be a pretty neat job. You get to be all stealth like, don't have to deal with people other than your colleagues, and get paid for reading.

I use "college" in the American sense, as university. It's where you go to after you leave high school with 18 or 19 if you want to do some sort of intellectual job. We also have bachelor's and master's here now, I'm one of the last students on the old system with the intermediate exams thing. When I say "basic studies" I don't mean random classes in subjects that have nothing to do with my course of studies, it's more introductory classes to my major and minors, some text production and translation classes, and the thing with 10 page papers instead of 20.

You're such a dork when you get American things over there, lol. And the description of Starbucks is classic, lol.

Speaking of bellydance! The red headed chick I showed you? I saw a more recent thing with her - she's changed her hair style and I swear the resemblance is even greater now.
