Hotel room upgrades?

Does anyone have any experience with upgrading your hotel room reservation to a suite? Is this even something that the hotels do? And if so, are suites generally still available this close to the con ( Read more... )

The Sheraton does offer larger rooms and I have no idea how to actually request one. They are not actual suites because there is no door you can close, but they are DEFINITELY much larger and usually have a pull-out sofa bed. Last year I called 3-4 weeks in advance to request a roll away bed in the room, and I reserved one with no fuss. However, when we got to the Sheraton (around 2:00 or 3:00 on Thursday I'd estimate), the woman who checked us in seemed perplexed when confronted with giving us a roll away bed. I am guessing that the Sheraton ran out. HOWEVER, because I'd reserved the bed a month in advance, I was still guaranteed another bed, and they put us in a nice GIANT room that was really roomy and was just perfect, as there were only three of us. I'm not sure how we swung that, but I'm hoping to keep the trend going in the future!
