So which host hotel is the best at night to drink? Im staying in the Hyatt but have heard that the Marriott can get pretty crazy. What about the other hotels?
I think most people will be in the Marriott or Hyatt. It used to always be the Hyatt where people came together at night. But with the Fire Marshall requests, the biggest crowd moved over to the Marriott. There will be plenty of people in both, but more in the Marriott. And walking between the two often is good way to see lots of different costumes. Not sure the other host hotels have much going on at night.
As nightwing said, both the Hyatt and Marriott bars are busy. Hyatt has a new bar which might attract bigger crowds this year. Some people can be found in the other hotels (I have heard rumors of guests being spotted at the Hilton singing karaoke), but they are fairly low key in comparison.
The Hyatt bar is crowded and not much alcohol for the high price; the Marriott Parasol Bar is crowded with at least an average bar; but the BEST is the Hilton, lower floor, Trader Vic's Bar. They have killer (3 shots of rum and more) Mai Tais and you can get them to go. Also Trader Vic's has great quality plus won't break the bank.
The biggest crowd is now in the Marriott, with a large secondary crowd in the Hyatt. The Hilton can't hold quite as many people, but it's lobby is far more comfortable, and the karaoke makes it a hell of a party. If you aren't meeting friends and just want a bar to hang out at, head to the Hilton until karaoke dies down, then to the Marriott.
I think the karaoke area in the Hilton is the most fun, especially on Sunday night - there's plenty of people there but it's not overwhelmingly chaotic or obnoxiously crammed like the Hyatt. The Marriott is definitely worth hanging out in if you have your own booze (I have no idea how people are able to get service at the bars at night, it looks like it would be a challenge) and can find a spot to lean against on the railing (also a challenge!). The Hyatt lobby used to be fun, but in the past couple of years it's just been people in constant motion, getting herded around by the staff. It might be better with the new bar.
They set it up in that lounge area in the lobby where the couch nook things are - straight across from the check in desk area. We had a great time there last year - randomly, a huge group of masked luchadores showed up and did a song, haha.
