Help! Rideshare between Dragon*Con and Orlando!

Aug 23, 2011 14:41

I have a shared room, and my membership. However, I have just heard that the person I was going to drive from Orlando to Dragon*Con (on Thursday the 1st) and back (on Sunday afternoon the 5th) may not be able to go. Is there anyone who would be willing to share a ride to and from Orlando? My own car probably can't make it, and a rental would kill ( Read more... )

It's actually never too late for greyhound. They are cheap, and fares don't change no matter when you buy your ticket.

I was coming in here to say the same thing. I've bought tickets the day of and even just a few minutes before I was going to leave (though I don't advise that if you're traveling with more than a carry on).

The only thing is that fares do change. They have advance pricing which is not allowed once it's 1 week (maybe 2) before the date and web pricing, which gets removed the day of at some point, and of course, the normal pricing, along with the refundable pricing.

If you can make it to the Jacksonville area (we're about 45 minutes south of Jax) we have space! What part of Orlando are you in?

I am looking for someone to share my car with from Orlando To D*C. I am leaving early (10 AM-ish) on Thursday the 1st and I plan to leave after the last panel on Monday the 5th. I am hoping to meet up with some friends from Tampa on the road and share meals & gas stops with them, so our driving schedule will be somewhat dependent on coordinating with them. Leaving D*C, we will stop for an early dinner/late lunch at Cracker Barrel (it's tradition for our group) and caravan back home. I usually have someone to share my car with, but everyone I usually share with isn't going this year.

AAA estimates the gas costs at roughly $120 round trip, so if I can get someone to split that, it'd be great. My other option is greyhound, which costs $30 more but will save me in parking fees.

I'm also thinking of parking at a free MARTA station and taking the $2 train ride to the hotel to save on those $20/day parking fees.

I'd be glad to share your ride! tomreedtoon August 28 2011, 01:25:56 UTC
Joreth, I'd be glad to share a ride with you. I've sent you a private message about this; hope to talk to you sometime Sunday night to set things up further. If you somehow don't get my message let me know and we'll arrange some other kind of contact. Thanks!

Okay, guys, Joreth has decided he can't afford the trip. If there's anyone who's leaving from Orlando on Thursday the 1st, and returning Monday the 5th, please IM me with your phone number so we can discuss this. I'll be glad to share gas money and maybe even spring for a reasonable meal on the way up or on the way back. If no one can do it, I'll buy a Greyhound ticket on Tuesday and be resigned to the agony of bus travel.

I thank the people in Jacksonville who offered, but I'm afraid to risk my car going to Jax - plus the problems of parking somewhere free and safe there. And I want to talk to anyone making the offer for a while, so we can both be comfortable about this mutual journey.

Thanks, and I hope to hear from someone by tomorrow.

Did you talk to this guy??

I've got a friend who is driving into flagler county to pick up a guy and he may have an extra seat if you could get there. It's a gated private community fwiw. I'll ask him if he still has an extra seat if you can make it over.

thedelphi, I've just IM'ed the person from Orlando. I'll find out if he has room for one more. I'd rather pay a person than a corporation, and I'd rather travel with a fellow fan than a religious fanatic. Thanks!
