Ain't nothin' but a Thundercat Ho

You know, I frequently hear people my age (roundabout 30) speak wistfully of the TV cartoons we grew up with, and complain how all of today's cartoons are shit in comparison.

Now, I grew up with He-Man and Thundercats and Voltron and all that. I spent many school days watching the classic Disney Afternoon -- Duck Tales, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing ( Read more... )

I have mixed feelings about the cartoons from when we were kids. I love Ducktales and Transformers, but every time I catch He-Man, Voltron, Pirates of Dark Water or just about anything else, I want to go back and smack my 10 year old self.

On the other hand, I am also not as fond of today's cartoons. Some of it drives me insane. (I hate Pokemon, despite having recently married someone with a Pokemon Tattoo) I don't really like spongebob either, though I appreciate that Mr Crab is the Kurgen from Highlander.

I wonder if these people were SOBER when watching crap like Harvey Birdman and Sealab... WTF? Those are TERRIBLE. D:

But yeah. There IS some good stuff produced these days. Avatar is friggin' AWESOME, and may now be my favorite, second to Gargoyles.

(And I think you meant Spartakus and the Sun Beneath the Sea. :3 That one was French, actually.)

You're right, it's the Sun Beneath the Sea. That's what I get for posting right before I go to bed.

Harvey Birdman and Sealab have a very specific style of comedy that's not for everyone. I find them funny for the most part, but low in rewatch value. Unfortunately, Adult Swim saw how popular those two were and attempted to crap out a whole bunch of similar cartoons that are varying levels of awful (eg. Frisky Dingo and Saul of the Mole Men, which isn't even a cartoon wtf).

Yeah, they are DEFINITELY not my kind of humor. And 90% of ATHF is also not my kind of humor. >.> I relate best to Frylock with the whole "Who are these idiots I'm with?" thing.

...Now that I think of it, A LOT of the stuff created by Adult Swim is so...not for me. I DO like Metalocalypse when I catch it, I desperately wish Korgoth would have been picked up, and Moral Orel makes me snicker like a mad, mad thing. Robot Chicken needs to die. In a fire. Until it's dead. >.>

Interestingly, I love ATHF, but cannot STAND Squidbillies.

I'll take the less random comedy like Venture Bros. and Futurama.

Oh, and I fully admit to liking Titan Maximum and wish they'd bring it back. Claymation fTW! :D

I think Quincy and I watch more cartoons than live shows anymore - Foster's, 6teen, South Park, Avatar, Venture Bros., ATHF, Futurama, Family Guy, Storm Hawks, anything with Marvel or X-Men in it, etc.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I'm slashing them all in my head. *whistles innocently*
