An interesting take on the issue of bigotry. Like most points of view it has holes. Avenue Q focuses on unintentional bigotry. Their thesis that everyone is bigoted stands well, but the solution of "it doesn't matter" doesn't Much like Morgan Freeman's "Stop talking about it," idea more may be needed ( Read more... )

The comic Is kinda right based on the "we fear and hate the unknown" aspect of bigotry. the point is to recognize reflexive bigotry and separate it from "rational fear" A prejudice against a universe "marrying" an antimatter universe is a "rational fear," this will end in explosion. Hating an individual for their unreasoned violence (IE a spouse abuser or "rageholic") is NOT bigotry, its a reasoned emotional response. Hating an individual for the PERCEIVED danger of a group they belong to is bigotry.

Also inherent in fighting bigotry is the fact that people have the right to their own mistakes. Hurting yourself is not a crime, just dumb. Hurting others is the crime. Just because it's not the "best" answer doesn't mean that people shouldn't have a right to it. Having opinions that people don't like isn't a crime, but hurting people due to those opinions is.
