You're always very thorough but have you considered a column for "newbies"? Something geared to either adults who have taken up model trains as a new hobby or youngsters who are outgrowing the little train that runs in circles and are starting to build train layouts and such. Maybe a Q & A for that sort of column? I see that in a variety of magazines that are hobby or special interest centered and there are always people saying "I'm new at but how can I..." sort of things . Or maybe a column on more obscure or interesting tidbits for the history minded. (Think Laurel level research) Just a thought.
Those are precisely the directions I am planning to go. We don't have but one or two "junior" members, and less than a handful of adults who are "new" to the hobby. One of the things I am trying to avoid modeling advice-wise is repeating the same stuff found in the beginner books or magazines. It is VERY difficult considering there is over 75 years' worth of hobby magazines offering advice.... :) It's OK, though. Some things bear repeating.
Very true but too few individuals will slog through 75 years of hobby magazines anymore. Thus, a local newsletter/magazine that supplies some of thr older advice and knowledge is generally well received. With the internet we've gotten lazy and who doesn't like some occasional 'instant gratification'.
