New BioWare interview for the Dragon Age Keep

Dec 07, 2013 19:12

I came across this today, and thought this community would want to watch it too.

Interview with Fernando Melo - Director of Online Development for BW

He answers a lot of questions about the Keep, and confirms that we won't be able to input the Warden's or Hawke's appearance. :/

ETA: No spoilers for DA:I

It seems like good news to me. I would prefer that everyone have to use Keep. The flags into DA2, heck even the flags into Awakenings and Witch Hunt, were pretty flaky. I think it makes more sense (to me at least) to enter it all manually so we get what we expect and *hopefully* everything will be easier for the system to read (no more bad Zev flags, I hope). I liked the ME save generator comic, but using it meant that you lost several cameos -- and some of the bonuses from loot as well -- which meant that it was an inferior experience to an actual saved game. My main concern was that an imported save would be treated differently than a created one and it sounds like it won't. As a console (primarily, at least) player, it also means I can switch to whatever platform I want for the next version without worrying. If they can't import looks, though, it makes me think we won't see the Warden or Hawke :)

I completely agree!

It also sounds like the Keep is something sustainable that can be used for many future DA games. And anything that helps out with the patching is a huge bonus.

Haven't been able to watch the video, but everything in this comment sounds good to me. The failing flags were pretty frustrating (*coughNathanielcough*).

I always doubted we'd see the Warden and/or Hawke. Hear about them, maybe. It does bother me; I really want to know what happened to them! I suppose leaving it ambiguous lets us write our own endings for them, but baaah...

It sounds like they're planning to even allow you to import unfinished saves and "finish" them in the keep, which is news to me.

Well it sounds like that they have an automated system for that too, where you tell it "I only got to X, but I wanted A and B to happen" so it extrapolated C D and E off that.

One question I was wondering was if you could take a DAO save directly into DAI, and I guess this answers that.

The only question I have at this point is if it will let us import from Origins to Awakening or DA2. (To fix import bugs, mostly)

Edit: Ok, probably not Awakening, given that there is no face import. But it would be cool to play an Orleasian warden in the same universe as a warden who died, which is not possible right now.

Oh yes, an Orleasian wardan in the same universe as a sacrificed warden. That's something I want to do.

I've always wondered what the games thinks if you import an Orleasian warden into DA2. What does it count as happened in DAO?
