Another "new computer and now having trouble" issue

AUGH! None of my DLC will download and install.  They show up as "there" - but whenever I tell the game to download, it returns a "Download Failed" error message.  Anyone have any idea why this is happening?!?  I've updated the game to 1.05, so that shouldn't be an issue ( Read more... )

You don't mention what OS you're running (that's pretty critical when asking for troubleshooting help, for future reference), but older games have problems with newer versions of Windows because of security and permissions.

Make sure you're running DA:O as an Administrator before downloading/installing the DLC. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Also, try Googling for DLC issues with your version of Windows.

Yeah, this issue is so bad even the support rep was at a loss. I have to call them tomorrow. Yeesh.

This is apparently a common problem up to recently (this month), according to Google, and very few solid solutions. There's a couple of suggested fixes that might or might not help, here (it involves downloading and installing the DLC separately as dazips, like you can do with the free items), and here (the specific instructions are in the very last post). Other suggestions include completely wiping the game off your computer (including registry keys) and reinstalling, reconnecting through a new DNS server (no idea how to do that) and so on. Good luck.

Thank you for the possible solutions! Ugh - you'd think they'd get this fixed...

Nope. They're not going to, and it's unreasonable to expect they will.

DA:O was written for specific OSes available at the time the game was being created, they've probably "discontinued support" and are not going to devote the time or effort it would take to make it compatible with newer OSes.
