Veteran v. Newbie Wardens sensitivity to darkspawn taint tersa January 12 2012, 16:54:45 UTC
I don't know if this is just me expressing what I believe is a logical opinion or something that was actually said in the game or in the codex, but...

Are wardens who are more experienced (having been a Warden for a longer duration of time) more sensitive or attuned to the presence of darkspawn taint, especially in terms of proximity?

Like, if there were two Wardens, one who had been a Warden for 20 years and one who had just joined, would the veteran Warden be able to detect darkspawn in the area before the newbie did?

I'm thinking that because Wardens are still tainted and that the taint does increase over time (which leads to the Calling) that more senior wardens would be able to more readily detect darkspawn, especially at a distance, than a newbie would, but I'd like to find out either if (a) this is confirmed in game (b) simply logical, or (c) it's been refuted somewhere in canon.

TIA!

I think sensitivity differs from person to person (kind of like Anne Rice's vampires, "The dark gift is different for us all"), but my opinion on this is definitely a resounding yes. Riordan is really the only seasoned Warden we get to know - since Duncan was all secretive and all - and the impression I got from him was that he knew EXACTLY where the Archdemon was, and even Alistair gives a hint to this outside Flemeth's hut right after Ostagar.

It just makes sense to me, given how we know the taint works (and the proof in DA2 that Anders can sense them leading up to warden!Sibling, although why he couldn't have warned me of all the other ambushes in the Deep Roads prior to that IDEK XD ), so I'm glad there is some additional in game support for the idea.

Beta requests/offers tersa January 11 2012, 14:58:55 UTC
Looking for a beta reader? Want to offer to be a beta reader?

- Requesters, give a vague note of the characters/central romance involved in your story and what its generally about (gen, romance, angst, smut/PWP) and if there are any potential triggers/squicks

- Beta offers, make a note if there's anything you'd prefer not to read, both character/romance wise, story type, squicks

I'll keep an eye on the thread and if someone posts looking for someone and earlier or later a beta matches, I'll see about hooking you up. :)

I'm pretty sure it says at some point that it's nine years after DAO (don't remember in what context, maybe Wynne), which puts it just before Varric & Cassandra time (I think... Bioware timeline is dodgy).

Asunder timeline tersa January 11 2012, 23:49:47 UTC
I believe they said Asunder took place about a year after the 'Kirkwall rebellion', which they also indicated was the results of Anders blowing up the Chantry/the end game stuff.

Mentally, I have Cassandra's interrogation of Varric be three years after Act III to come up with the '10 years' number they said the game encompassed:

Prologue->Act I = 1 year
Act I -> Act II = 3 years
Act II -> Act III = 3 years
Act III -> Cassandra = 3 years
== 10 years

so Asunder would be a couple of years before Cassandra drags Varric in for questioning. Which would make sense, given what Cassandra says about the Circles rebelling and what Varric says about how the Chantry had lost control of the templars. Those were all past tense, but all indications in Asunder is that that hadn't happened yet, and that the events of the novel are part of what led to those circumstances coming to happen.

What kind of thoughts on Wynne?
