Why do I have a macbook and not know what you're talking about?

iLife is the suite of programs including iMovie, iPhoto, iWeb, iDvd, and iTunes, and Garageband

iWork is Pages, Keynote, and a new program called Numbers.

They upgrade them each year or so.

depends on the extremity of the situation, ben. if your looking for more in depth projects that require an upgraded version then go for it, otherwise.... you can probably find some OS photoshop imitation online somewhere.

yeah and kudos on this not being about drum corps. haha

::avoiding packing like the plague::

I would say save your cash and time for another year (or two) and don't upgrade. there's no reason to have the newest thing, especially when the newest thing is a shinier version of something that you already have and are using with no troubles.

and what projects are you doing that require universal binary? you're about to be off to florida quite soon, you probably won't even have time to play with that stuff.

so basically, if there isn't any pressing need or use (except the anal keep-up-with-the-joneses part of you screaming 'but i want it!'), dont get it- save that for gas money to visit. or just something else you don't even know you want yet.

well te universal binary is just casue when the new macs came out they arrived with newer faster intel x86 series processors as opposed to the older macs with IBM powerPC processors, alot of programs where diesgined to used the old IBM ones and needed to be rewirtten for use on the Intel one. office for mac has yet to be rewirtten and the new version was just delayed even further. so right now im running a powerpc program on x86 architechture under an emulator which slows performace but allws me o run forign programs the universal binary wihth just make it run native.

and i do my own little projects. i keep busy.
