I'm always amazed at the number of political commentators posing as news reporters. I wonder how that happened? I remember news anchors that actually did nothing but report news. Sigh. My age is showing, isn't it?
Not as much as you think. I remember when CNN Headline New used to be just news and nothing else. I remember when there was a half hour of local news and a half hour of national news and that was it. I miss those days... and when they actually reported news and not the light and fluffy talking heads of today.
One of the local stations has a 10pm newscast we listen to. I figure close to ten minutes is taken by commercials and sports. Another five for weather plus a few for "friendly comments" between anchors. Of the "news time" that is left the newest anchor gets 3-4 minutes of man-on-the-street interviews a couple times a week. It amazes me that so many people that make the cut agree with whatever the guy is "selling" that day.
Ah well. There's always another news source somewhere
