Bioware at PaxAus

Hi folks,
I'm back from the PAX Australia conference (PAX = Penny Arcade.) It was the first real gaming conference ever in Australia. Ticket sales aren't confirmed but are rumored (from reliable sources) that 50,000 tickets sold out 9 months before the event.

Bioware sent the wonderful team of Patrick and Karin Weekes, lead editor and lead writer for the DA: Inquisition team, along with Cameron Lee, producer for DA:I and "Evil" Chris Priestly, the Community manager. I was lucky enough to speak to them all several times during the con, and they were gracious and friendly and keen to meet Bioware fans. Sadly their main talk, BioWare Journeys Down Under, was put into one of the lesser theatres that only housed 3-400 people. Their queue filled 2 hours (!!) before the panel, leaving many fans (including me) disappointed. Ironically I missed out on getting into the queue because I was talking to Karin and Chris at the time :/

Fortunately, those who were able to get in have been good about reporting to everyone else. ElitePinecone on the Bioware Community forum has given a detailed report at http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/371/index/14137082/360 - scroll down to find it or I can summarise and report back here if you wish.

Also, Ian Miles Cheong has a detailed article about the panel at http://www.gamefront.com/dragon-age-3s-open-world-informed-dialogue-choices-discussed/

I might have missed out on the panel, but Patrick was kind enough to invite me to the Bioware private party that night so we could chat more. It was a lovely night where I got to chat briefly with the team and meet lots of other lovely enthusiastic fans and some media reps. I got to talk Dragon Age all evening, and then the team gave out limited lithographs and signed mine and my "World of Thedas" book. Later in the weekend they also signed my plush mabari (which my Cousland-playing son promptly tried to steal.)

Patrick confirmed that Cassandra is a fan of Varric's "Hard in Hightown" - yes, that IS a copy of HIH on the war table in the trailer. He joked that it puts a whole new spin on Cassandra having Seekers drag Varric in to interview at the start of DA:2.

One of the none-Dragon Age highlights of talking to them was discovering a shared love of JD Robb with Karin and Patrick.
