Anders ducked into the small, dark cave, shielding his head from low hanging tree roots that poked from the low ceiling. Hawke had started a fire in the back, and had already draped her wet robe on a rock ( ... )

Huh. I like the take on Marian being even more rabid about what Anders did than Anders himself. First time I've seen that done. :)

The Adventures of Feathers the Griffon erunamiryene June 7 2011, 16:21:06 UTC
"Mommy, where's cow?"

"Leandra, we're reading something new tonight. Your father brought it home."

The three year old folds her arms and glares at Donnic. "Daddy. Cow."

Donnic smiles and shakes his head. "New book, honey."

Leandra flops onto her bed and pouts.

Aveline sits down, opens the book, and shows Leandra the title page. "See, it's about Feathers. He's a ... speed griffon." She pauses and looks at Donnic. "Where, exactly, did you get this?"

Donnic shrugs. "Corff handed it to me while I was at the market today. I felt bad telling him no. And it could be good!"

Aveline sighs. "You're lucky I love you, my husband." She turns to the first page. "Feathers was a griffon. But he wasn't just any griffon - he was the fastest griffon in his roost .... "

Bought new dagger, got to break it in a couple of hours later. Hawke does spoil me so.

---

Visited darling big girl today. Forgot to knock. She has yet to follow my thoughtful advice, though. May have to carve helpful hints in her desk.

---

Aveline did not appreciate my helpful hints. Stroked Varric's chest hair for comfort. It's very soothing.

---

Got bored, groped entire party over the course of the afternoon. Fenris strangely receptive; may require further investigation.

---

Sometimes wonder if the thoughts I have about ships are entirely healthy. Still, that mast.

---

Desire demon used my love of ships against me. Hawke was surprisingly okay with the betrayal. Perhaps I've found a kindred spirit?

---
Definitely a kindred spirit. Also, incredibly flexible. ♥ ♥ ♥

How to Train a Mabari genki June 7 2011, 16:21:38 UTC
As he left the home of the caretaker of a minor bann's estate with his payment in fish, Malcolm Hawke heard a whine from a low pen beside a barn. Glancing within, he found a litter of recently weaned mabari, including one whelp scratching at the side of the fence as if trying to climb it and crying ravenously.

"What's that, puppy? Are you hungry and smell the fishies? I didn't think dogs fancied fish. Are you a cat?"

"Whine," helpfully replied the mabari pup, and made the saddest eyes it could muster.

"Here you go then, cat," he said, pulling a fish from his sack with a flourish. "A fish for the cat!"

And soon it was no fish, as the tiny dog inhaled it whole.

Malcolm patted the dog on its head with a chuckle and hoped Leandra didn't mind him giving away his share of supper again.

"You be a good boy now, cat. See you later."

"Bark," agreed newly-named Cat, and squeezed through the narrow fence to follow his new master.

When she looks at the new Warden, it's almost like she's looking at herself. Well, sort of. Most of the new Wardens aren't tiny elves and she highly doubts any of them will go on to slay an archdemon or turn place a king on the throne or -

Still, this boy has something to prove, just like Kiva did in those first days out of the alienage. Not the same things, and she isn't able to tell just who this boy needs to prove it to - no, she knows, because even if he thinks it is someone else, it is himself who needs to know that he is capable.

And, just like her, he's not as good as he thinks he is, but he's better than he could be. He's got potential.

So as she and Nathaniel discuss who to bring on their next expedition into the Deep Roads, she says that she wants to bring along Carver Hawke.

MOAR CARVER. EEEEE.

I was wondering if that was who 'this boy' was going to be him, but I love that it's from the perspective of Tabris, bringing the Origins perspective and laying it onto DA2 events. :D

I think he'd fit in well at Vigil's Keep. Though, he'd probably be rather annoyed at my Tabris on occasion. :D

"Sit."

He's jolted into the chair hard enough to rattle his teeth, but he does his best not to wince or grunt because this woman hasn't the right to see him do that. Instead he settles back and adjusts his coat, flicking at an imaginary spot of dust. The room's darkening with the dusk and the fires just about edge out over the shadows. It's going to be a long night.

It's funny. Well, it's not, not really, but it's the kind of thing you call funny because the other words for it make you uncomfortable. This isn't his only story. It's not even his most popular one. But it's the one he retells the most. Some tales catch you in the telling.

"So." Varric smirks with humour he doesn't feel. "You want to hear about the Champion?"

A cake the size of Thedas featheredraven June 7 2011, 17:25:13 UTC
"We're making a cake!" Hawke announces one afternoon, and Anders inwardly groans. For several reasons. Cake is delicious. Cake is fantastic. Cake is also messy to make and they will probably accidentally blow it up in the process. That's what tends to happen when Hawke bakes.

"Why a cake, love?" he asks her. "Why not pie? That didn't turn out too badly last time."

She glares at him. "We're making cake because it's Varric's birthday and he likes cake better than pie. Also, it's going to be a giant cake. A huge cake. The most fantastically large cake that I can possibly make!"

And she's got that determined look on her face that means that this will get done, even if it turns into a disaster in the process.
