Huh, yeah. From what I heard at the Continuum panel at Comic-Con, Daniel lost the leg mostly because Michael Shanks couldn't make it to a couple days of Arctic shooting and that was a way to write him out of those scenes. Which makes me go.... huh? Because that's kind of a major thing to throw at a character for minor logistical reasons, you know? It's PERMANENT. And not handled at all, aside from Daniel's rather numb seeming "Well, I thought I was dying, so by all means take the leg." It's a weirdly huge thing to have be a sort of "oh, and by the way," in a movie, especially for a beloved character who is still active in the franchise.
Then again, I am the Queen of Ignoring Canon, so unless fic writers deal with it brilliantly, I plan on forgetting it happened.
It certainly isn't dwelt on, that's for sure, and I would love to hear your reactions after you watch it, if that's something you're comfortable sharing

It took you THIS long? I am stunned at your restraint.
Yes. Of course Daniel says "Oh, shit." Hell, he says it OFTEN- just look at the crap he gets into! I kind of loved that about "Ghostfacers" too- it let Dean Winchester swear like a sailor.
I might be able to answer your question if I had ever been a Buffy fan. But it's not unlikely, since "Everybody in the alterna-timeline dies very horribly and dramatically at the last moment leaving only one person to right the timeline" is a trope, and pretty much required for stories like this? I would say it probably was similar, just from what you say.
I wasn't prepared to cry and I had the feeling that I needed to at least be PREPARED to cry. Yesterday was hellish and I was weepy already so I took the plunge

Actually- no. I watched the first three episodes of the season, and the third one left a bad taste in my mouth. Actually, there was a lot about it I loved (WOOLSEY! My FAVORITE leader of the expedition. I think Woolsey and Caldwell should get together for their Awesome-old-white-guys spinoff, fer sure. Also, John snark! Mcshep banter! Rodney in the bathtub!) but the writers retconned Satedans into Klingons, which I object to, and then the ending went all torture-porn on us, and... I just... didn't have the impetus to watch the next week. And then I was writing rather than watching. And then I was so far behind it was silly.
But! Because you wrote this, I just vowed to get caught up, so I watched Daedalus Variations. And HOLY SHIT. That may be their BEST EPISODE EVER.
ETA: Er, so my point was, I'm catching up. I'll be caught up Wednesday. Hold that thought!
