Haven't seen 3:10 to Yuma yet, but your Western meta reminded me of this article on gay subtext in the cowboy genre. Thought you might like to read it. :)
Also, I just happened to see I Am Legend, and was also very impressed! Something about a man and his dog just pushes every button I have. And that scene where he talks along with the Shrek movie... That's the one that did me in.
Thank you for the fantastic article! Though I am now no end of frustrated because I can't seem to find a download of Red River. ("The smoldering presence of the young Clift, who was gay but closeted, coupled with Wayne's brilliant, booming performance, gives "Red River" a backdrop as charged with repressed sexual sadism as a British boys' boarding school." OH MY GOD HOW MUCH DO I WANT TO SEE THIS MOVIE NOW?)
The traffic school thing? I would PAY someone to do that. Seriously, I would go out of my (tiny) mind if I had to sit and read stuff like that for EIGHT HOURS. Not like you don't know it all already, right? It's basic driving information.
I cannot wait to see I Am Legend. It's had these awful reviews over here, about the bad CGI, but Will Smith and a dog? Always wins.
I kind of want to go to the judge and throw up my hands and say "For Christ's sake, it's not like I don't KNOW all these laws! I just chose not to follow one of them!" except I think that would be bad *g*
Bad CGI? I hadn't actually heard that. I mean, it may not be technically the best (on reflection, the deer did kind of move like they didn't weigh anything), but they do an incredible job with the FEEL of an abandoned Manhattan, which is more important to me than the technical quality anyway... I think you should see it.
