SG1 writing exercise: Inside the Defenses

I was trying to write fic this week. It didn't work. Below I give you three snippets; I do not know whether they really come from the same fic or not, but I wanted them to. Judge for yourselves.

There isn't as much first move/Season 1 Jack as I like either, no. I suspect it's because of the difference between movie Jack and show Jack- while it's easy to imagine a continuity for Daniel, to see them both as the same person, it takes so much work to figure out how movie Jack could have become our Jack that it's easier to just more or less forget the movie.

Plus, in the first half of Season 1 the writers already knew who Daniel was (Torment of Tantalus, enough said), but I'm not sure they had a handle on Jack (er, Brief Candle. Enough said)

This is just gorgeous. I love the parenthetical thoughts, the ones he doesn't even seem to really want to admit to himself, and the way Jack's reactions are so thoroughly in the moment, while also bearing the weight of things that come before. Fabulous all around!
