[So the flood didn't have affect Ariadne, but it sure left something behind. Boy, she is not happy.]

Somehow, Heero's in a coma. He's just a kid and the Admiral let something like that happen to him! [Her tone is a mixture of anger, worry, and frustration. Sure, some of it aimed towards the head honcho of the Barge, but it's aimed towards herself ( Read more... )

They happen with some regularity; my inmate is also in a coma. If you take him to the infirmary, they should be able to look after him for the duration.

Why do they happen though? It doesn't make sense how a healthy teenager suddenly becomes comatose.

[Her voice softens.] I already took him there, but I'm still worried.

It happens to healthy teenagers and healthy adults alike. There is no medical explanation; on of my inmates was in one such coma for months.

I'm certain Heero will wake up.

Is there a way I can get him to wake up? Or do I just have to wait?

[Some hesitation before she replies. Mal remembers being cold to Ariadne when they first met (for the second time), but not why, and she feels kind of bad about that. But her urge to offer comfort and advice wins.]

He will be all right, Ariadne. These things happen on the Barge, and it shall pass.

[This is quite the shocker. Ariadne thought Mal would be the last person to comfort her after their "lovely" encounter. She can't help but feel both confused and touched.Still, the older woman's answer leaves much to be desired.]

But why is he in a coma, and for how long?

No one knows why they happen, and as for how long-it could be a week, perhaps more. It's difficult to say.

I know it's disturbing, but it will pass.

Disturbing is an understatement. I need to find a way to wake him up.

He'll be fine. Perry once fell off the Barge for four months. Just think of it as a vacation. [SO PROFESSIONAL]

[EXCEPT NOT REALLY. LINEFACING YOU FOREVER. >I] Hardly. I can't relax knowing he's in a perpetual state of unconsciousness.

You do know that there's nothing you can do about it, right?

How do you know? I'm not going to give up on him just yet.

I'm trying to work out what does cause these comas. As nobody else seems to really care...

Which strikes me as odd.

It's more than odd, it's alarming how much people don't care around here. [She gives him a small smile.] At least you're trying to figure it out.

Alarming, but understandable. Sometimes, there are answers people would rather not know. But someone's still got to ask the questions.

What was he doing when it happened? Can you tell?

I can't. I wasn't there when it happened. [She's beating herself up because of that.]

They've been okay. I can't really say. [Or more like she rather not talk to you about it D:]

[;___; She's making an effort too. She doesn't want to screw up like the previous Ariadne did.]

I guess. He's not much of a talker, but he hasn't caused me any trouble either. [The boy could use some manners though.]
